I know that the N.F.B. has a group of folks working on accessibility. Call the national center, 410-659-9314. I'd ask for Wes Majoris. If he doesn't know, he'll know who does.

I must agree with previous posters. Your potential at-home employers just do not want to make their sites accessible. There are a couple of things you can try. Think about different screen readers. Are they more accessible with NVDA or with satogo? Send a note out on the NFB and other computer science lists. Someone may be using the site already. See if anyone on the American Foundation for the Blind's career connect site is using such sites, and how they're doing it.

Those are a few thoughts. I hope they are helpful.

Hello list:

I was wondering, is any of the blindness organizations looking into accessibility for some of the at home job Companies such as Alpine Access, Arise,.com, Live Ops and Working Solutions? They have working contracts with hotels.com, Barns & Noble, Disney World, Apple and Shop at Home just to name a few.

I have sighted friends and family who are working at home with the companies I have listed above. However, checking into them all, I have come across some major accessibility issues.

For the most part they are web based applications with a great deal of java and flash players which has been largely screen reader inaccessible.

Alpine access has told my wife that they are aware of the Jaws screen reader however, there's nothing they can do to make it accessible.

This job market could be a great break through for blind people who are at home and willing to work for major national Companies paying top dollar with benefits.
