[Blindtlk] about LWSB

All this talk just confirms my not wanting to get training from them.
I'm so glad I didn't decide to go, thanks.

If I had to go to get any training from them, I would go without the
training.

Hi Guys,

I attended Lions World twice, both of them back in the 80s. The first time I
was in a secretarial training program, and the second time was a basic
medical transcription course. It has been so long ago, that I honestly don't
recall whether or not I was forced to talk to a psychiatrist, but I do
remember that the center had a very strict policy against staff members
"fraternizing" with the students.

One of my instructors was constantly getting in trouble, because she
developed friendships with myself and other students and wanted to get
together with us after hours. There was definitely a message sent to the
students that "we are above you. You are second class. We are the
authorities." The funny thing about that though was that the blind
instructors, what few there were, got in much less trouble for things like
that than did the sighted instructors. Most of the instructors were sighted
though.

Can’t think of any reason why they’d send Ray to a psychiatrist. On
the other foot, perhaps they were just trying to keep him on his
toes. Still, you have to tread lightly with such matters as some
people have fairly sensitive skin underfoot. At the same time, you
can hardly walk 'round the issues indefinitely. I dunno though, I
just can’t put my foot on any plausible cause for concern here.

*grin*

LWSB pretty consistently continues to garner a reputation for being a
bunch of sighted people who want us to know how awful it is to be
blind, if nothing else. That alone suggests to me all I need to know
about the organization.
