You're probably right. However, my principal objection to public radio is
that, like Bob Dylan, its practitioners never seem to know when to leave a
word (or two or three or a bazillion) out. IMO the analysis could use a good
dose of the wisdom from a technical writing course. While I like the
analysis, it doesn't have to fill twenty minutes. That's where reading books
comes in.

Bottom line: I like *both* commercial all-news and NPR/PRI/BBC. I have them
all on my iPhone.

Besides, NPR seldom covers murder and mayhem!

Personally I think public radio has it all over commercial radio for 
news -- and I used to work as a news writer, for an all-news station, 
at the start of my career, KQV in Pittsburgh, PA.  Don't know if they 
are still doing news, doubt it, pretty expensive for a low-watt 
AM.  Our public station carries the BBC World Service overnight, 
which I very much enjoy.
