I believe there actually *is* a program called WAV2MP3 that does sound
conversion. There's also a free version of the program SWITCH that converts
sound file formats.
One more thing: you keep harping on this free thing. Isn't there anything
worth enough you'd pay for it? Why should programmers labor for free?

free) to convert audio files with? I have documents covered, but
I've found that online-converter.com isn't very reliable, and
would like a program that I can convert audio with, such as WAV
to MP3 or video to MP3. Any help would be appreciated! By the
way, we're finally getting snow here in Maryland! Thanks!
