[Blindtlk] To Cane or Not To Cane?

Hi Jessica and list.  I have a sighted wife and when we are together, I 
hang onto her elbow sighted guide, or hold her hand.  I carry my cane with 
me.  I don't feel like it is a compromise of mhy independence because 
there are enough settings where I get to use my cane and travel 
independently to suit my life style.  I would suggest holding onto your 
friend when you are with him either sighted guide or holding hands but 
carry your cane as well.  I remember going out briefly with someone who 
insisted on holding my cane when I was with her before I met my wife and I 
put a total lid on that one way early in my wife's  and my dating 
relationship.  If your friend insists on holding your cane because you 
have him to guide you, that would be bad and something to totally put the 
lid on right away (exclamation).
