Mary, I used to walk my daughter to school and always carried my cane, I
have some vision, not good enogh to read but if someone is around me who
doesn't know I can't see as long as i don't have to read anything or write
anything i am fine.
Even when carrying a cane most of my friends forget i cannot see because if
i am in a familiar place i can get around so it is confusing to them a lot
of the time, they cannot get a handle on how much i can and cannot see.
but i have started carrying a cane all the time becausei figure it helps
others to know i cannot see. for many years i did not carry it, i didn't
really want folks to label me as helpless as some have said, now since
joining the nfb i do carry it. '
many folks i know who are high parials as they are called carry their cane
especially when out and about. Jeanette
