Hi Penny,
I agree with Steve in that you might want to join the Blind Kid
list, but I would still stay on Blind Talk. That way, you can
get information and advice/ideas from other blind people like
myself (who are all glad to help) as well as other parents. You
may also want to join the NOPBC (National Association of Parents
of Blind Children) and their list. You could also contact your
state's OPBC. Hope this helps!

Julie,
Thanks for mentioning this, I should have thought of it. Penny,
you might want to subscribe to our "Blind-Kid" list or perhaps
contact Carol Castellano at
carol_castellano at verizon.net and ask her about availability of
canes for kids and the cane walk.
Best regards,
Steve Jacobson

There is also a cane walk/instruction seminar available for kids
and
parents. I'm remembering that it is a part of the National
Association of Parents with Blind Children events and is usually
in the
morning. typically there is a breif introductory segment in a
lecture
format, then kids and parents are paired up with volunteer
instructors
to explore the hotel while learning cane travel skills.
Participants
wear sleepshades during the event. There are ooddles of canes
available to use if you don't have one, want to try something
different
or the instructor would like you to try a different cane.
Have fun at convention!

I know Independence Market will be at the convention. My
daughter really
wants to try a NFB straight over the folding heavy aluminum
cane her O&M
instructor gave her. Does anyone know if they normally have a
good
selection? I keep telling her we will get her a new one at
convention and
now I am concerned there isn't going to be any there. Its our
first
convention and we are very excited
