Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from the Donahues,
It was a joyous Thanksgiving here in South Texas. We spent the morning
watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. My nephew picked us up this
afternoon to take us to the ranch where my niece and her husband live. This
Thanksgiving will go down in history in our family as the first time we ate
our Thanksgiving Dinner outdoors. They set up a long table and another table
for the food. We enjoyed great food, fellowship, and shared with each other
why we were thankful for what has happened in the past year. Mary and I led
the grace. She sang a verse of "We Gather Together" followed by a prayer
that I recited.
Lee and her husband Jason prepared two turkeys. One was fried and the
other roasted over coals in an outdoor roaster. That turkey was yummy but
the fried turkey wasn't bad either. We had the usual Thanksgiving trimmings
including cranberry sauce, mashed and sweet potatos, green bean caserole,
dressing, gravy, and for dessert we had ice cream and pumpkin pie.
It was a feast under a sunny South Texas sky on a grand scale. Eating
outside with the wind blowing, birds chirping, and hearing the sounds of the
livestock on the ranch made for a peaceful setting to enjoy our national day
to give Thanks. Here's hoping all of you had similar Thanksgiving
celebrations to remember. Now it's on to Christmas.
