Good afternoon Jim,
Apple was the first to deliver accessibility on their products for a very very long time. MAC OS X and IOS versions implement Voice Over. Voice over is truly amazing compared to any other screen readers I have used. Far easier to learn than most as well. You can run VMware fusion if you wish to run Windows or other OSes on your MAC desktops or laptops. I run Windows 7 and Windows 8 64 bit editions, SUSE LINUX, Red Hat Linux, and a few others. Although VMware fusion is speech enabled natively, the OSes running under it require additional screen reader technologies. I have spent time with JAWS, System Access, NVDA, Window Eyes, and a few lesser known screen readers I discovered while doing Google searches. So far I am really liking what I have played with in System Access. The company support is very excellent for the few limited questions I had. I am going to work further with Window Eyes. So I have not made a final decision yet. Microsoft has had 19 years to get it right and even with the enhancements I see in the Windows 8 developers edition they are still nowhere even close to Apple.
