Hi Joseph,

That's weird! What magazine is it? I use a Stream, so I'm not
sure how to fix it, but I'll forward this to a friend of mine who
does and see if he can help. I'll send his response to you
offlist, unless you and/or others want it posted to the list.

Chris

Subject: [Blindtlk] Finally got my hands on digital NLS player

So I finally got my hands on one of the NLS digital players.

I hate the thing already.

I'm not sure if the (actually a magazine) is the problem, or if
it's
the player. I've used DAISY players before, mostly with the
organization formerly known as RFB&D's books, and with Bookshare
books. But I'd never bothered to sign up for BARD, because most
of
the time what I played my books on was my computer, and you can't
do
that with NLS books.

I finally signed up because apparently an iPhone app is in the
works.

So the problem is that I've got the navigation menu set to
navigate
by article. Next. Contents. Okay, but I want to skip that.
Next.
End of book. WHAT!? Previous. Play. End of book. WHAT!? Go
back
around to select article in the menu and start pressing previous
and
hold it. One article. Five articles. Ten, then twenty, then
thirty, beginning of book. Okay, play. End of book. WHAT!?
I've
managed to get it to jump to various places (verified with the
info
button), but only the front matter and table of contents play,
and
then not even them all of the time.

Either this magazine is completely hosed, the player is
completely
hosed, or this behaves like no other DAISY player I have ever
seen,
ever, period. And of course, because of the stupid ridiculous
DRM, I
can't even begin to examine the thing myself to figure out where
the
problem lies.

This wasn't the way to make a good first impression. And since
my
Victor Stream (which I had no trouble using) has grown legs, I
don't
even have a point of comparison.

Joseph
