Can't answer that one. You'd be better served I think by finding someone who actually has one in your area. I can't physically go over and show you; but, honestly, I'd love to be able to do that.
What I suspect would serve you best is hands on training. Besides, I doubt Best Buy would be the best place to realy get your teeth in to this anyhow.
An Apple store might be best.
From what you say, hands on training would seem to suit you best.
Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

In order for me to decide if it's something worth pursueing, I would need to play with it. I'm not going to go to Best Buy or another computer store to play. I'd rather do it in the comfort of my home.

>> Well, I don't know about more expensive. You can get a Mac mini for just about $7.00 or so and have Voice Over built in. No more trying to get authorization keys, no more unstable behavior, no more exorbent prices that poor blind people can't pay. But, there's another side to it. There's quite a learning curve. Do not go in to this expecting the Mac to behave like windows. It ain't gonna happen. It took me about two or three weeks to get my head around the concepts. Very easy once you get used to it; but, be duely warned, it's not windows; and, you'll find yourself frustrated if you go in to this expecting windows-like behavior.

>>>> Ok. Phew! I'm not the only one experiencing issues with JAWS not responding. I think it's a number of things with my computer. #1. I have JAWS 10 on a windows 7 laptop. #2. I let a friend talk me into downloading all these different programs that will help speed up my computer. It helped, but started causing problems. It is quite frustrating to hear a chimed dialog box but nothing is said. The other day, as it was starting up, it had a starting windows repair window open saying not to turn off or restart the computer, but JAWS didn't say that. My 7 year old son read it to me and asked me if I wanted him to close the window. The computer would have been sitting here with that window open and I would have been getting upset and worried that my computer wasn't starting up properly. Right now, I have a window open for an adobe flash player update, but I don't know how to get to it. Occasionally JAWS will say, "update ready to be installed" and that's it. I have issues with Fire Fox as well. Every time I open it, I have to use the "alt tab" command twice in order to use the program. Sometimes, when I hit the applications key and scroll up to "send to," it will stop talking before or just after I reach it. IDK if there is an auto correct in Word 2007, but, I'll be typing along and I'll want to go back, re read what I just typed, and somehow my sentences were broken up and rearranged. It does it in my email as well. I use Windows Live Mail because I don't know how to use gmail on the site. -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Gomes Sent: Friday, August 24, 2012 10:31 PM To: 'Blind Talk Mailing List' Subject: Re: [Blindtlk] One thing I'm tired of I have that happen a lot with internet explorer 9, and it is the application, not jaws, because when everything starts up again, there's a message saying internet explorer stopped working. Outlook too, oh man, it hangs a lot, just freezes and locks up the whole darn computer, particularly first thing in the morning. -----Original Message----- From: blindtlk-bounces at nfbnet.org [mailto:blindtlk-bounces at nfbnet.org] On Behalf Of Mike Freeman Sent: Friday, August 24, 2012 8:50 PM To: 'Blind Talk Mailing List' Subject: Re: [Blindtlk] One thing I'm tired of Perhaps the application you're using has stopped responding for some reason. IDK what its doing or why, but there are times when I end up turning offf or restarting. Sometimes I can get JAWS back on. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? _______________________________________________
