"The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The
real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of education that
exists. If a blind person has the proper training and
opportunity, blindness can be reduced to a mere physical
nuisance."

Although some geeky souls use Android phones, they're not really
classifiable as accessible at this point without downloading
software
packages to make them speak and even these don't make a lot of
apps in the
Android Market accessible but contain their own limited subset of
apps.
As for the iPhone, if one is very easily frustrated, switching to
the
touch-screen might be a bit of a stretch. However, as Reese
says, with a bit
of persistence, one can get the hang of it. I got the iPhone at
the start of
a weekend and by its end, I was using the phone successfully.
I'd recommend
reading the NBp books on the iPhone; they'll give you a great
head-start.
VoiceOver has a "practice" area where you can practice the
various gestures
and VoiceOver will tell you what it thinks you did. This hones
one's skills
fairly quikly.

Thank you so much. Was also thinking of the Android, too. Do
you miss
having the tactile buttons? How easy is it to catch on to the
different
hand/finger motions used on a touch pad, and where can one go to
learn
these?
Thanks.

Hi Judy:
There's a bit of a learning curb when transitioning to a touch
pad phone
however, give it a week or two, and you will begin to get the
hang of it.
I went with the IPhone primarily for two important reasons. The
speech is
much better in my opinion then say the Android. And there seems
to be
more
usable apps with the IPhone as well. Had it well over a year
now and
haven't looked back.

----- Original Message ----- After years of using various Nokia
devices
with
Talks, I'm thinking about switching to something else, or at
least, seeing
if there is anything better out there. I'm very impressed with
the iPhone
and VoiceOver, but would like to hear how easy it is to adapt to
using the
touch pad.
I'm not impressed with MobileSpeak voices, tried a phone using
that in a
previous upgrade, and returned the phone and program.
I would like to hear from people about the pros and cons of the
phones and
programs they are using, so I can make an informed decision this
next
upgrade.
