[Blindtlk] How do You Find your Interactions with SightedPeople?

When I worked at Braille International, it was interesting because we had a
number of blind proofreaders in our department. However, we certainly
didn't interact much with sighted people from other departments outside the
work place. I can say that I had a couple of sighted friends who I did go
out with either after work or completely away from work, and I know that
some of us tried to organize Friday afternoon trips to restaurants to
celebrate happy hour and grab a bite, but it never really got off the
ground. And now, I am not hearing at all from most of the people in my
department. Yes, it's frustrating, but I'm not sure what the solution is.
I think there are a lot of people who simply like to separate their work
life from their social life.

I've found the same thing. I know a lot of people and some I call friends.
But, there are very few who are truly close. It seems people want to be
helpful, to a certain extent. They say I should call if I need them to take
me someplace or do something. But, I don't like to do that very often. It
wears out a friendship very quickly. I have invited people to my home or
out to eat with me. But, the invitation is not reciprocated. I don't
really know why, but it's very frustrating.

Hi all
I realize it's probably a strange one but how do you find your
relationships with sighted people?
I often find that, while I meet plenty of people through work and so
on and get to know them quickly, I make very few real friends, more
aquaintances.
I was wondering why this is - perhaps it's the nature of my work -
perhaps my personality and I wondered what the experiences of others
were?
