No you cannot belong to both and definitely no to being an officer

Apparently it is fine to belong to both organizations, but I think you
cannot be officers of both, and please correct me if I'm wrong. I found it
amazing that you could belong to both organizations for a long time, because
for many years I lived in Connecticut, where it seemed to me that there was
much friction and even some hostility between the two organizations. So it
seemed to me impossible to live in both worlds. When I lived in Florida,
however, I found that being a member of both organizations didn't seem to be
such a major issue.

This is a very good question. In my experience, the NFB is more proactive.
My understanding, too, is that the ACB is more of a social organization,
leaving main decisions to their board members rather than the membership.
In some states both organizations work amicably together, but am not sure if
this is true in all states. In our state of Idaho, the NFB is predominant.
Anyone on list, please correct my perceptions if necessary.
Year ago, the reason my choice was for the NFB is that I saw independent
proactive people, was impressed with the literature and leadership. When I
learned of the rich history of blind people as a minority, I realized how
much I'd taken for granted, and want to give back what I can to the
organization in any way I can.
