[Blindtlk] Windows 8 Aggravations

Yes, this is great news. However, I tried them when I first got Windows 8,
over a weekend, and was on hold for infinity i.e. finally realized noone
would be answering a call any time soon, and had to ut my hone back on the
charger. I usually cannot call during the weekdays. Do you know what their
hours are?

Thanks.

Judy

Hi everyone. I still use Windows 7, and I'm sure many of you must know
about this, but Microsoft has a support line for those of us who use screen
readers and other products which are meant for people such as us. The
number is 1-800-936-5900. I have called them several times and have found
the support staff to be most helpful. They are able to tandem with your
computer, which is a neat thing, and thus see what is going on with it and
work with you to fix some issues. Hope this helps.

Hi, Ariel,

I will try to write you off-list with the tweaks I used, but you might want
to go back to the place where you got your computer and see if they can help
you adjust your settings.

Windows 8, in my opinion is an Apple Wanabee, and the way this version of
Windows thinks we want to view things isn't necessarily user-friendly to us.
As Mike also said, Freedom Scientific Tech Support may be able to help you
with a lot of adjustments, as what you are describing seems to be
Jaws-related.

Hi Judy,
Thanks. Is there a concise way to explain how to tweak my tiles and
start screen and get rid of toolbars? And how do I add things to my
desktop?

It seems like I have two versions of Internet Explorer. When I first
clicked the "try Microsoft Office" tile, a browser window came up, and
it was the old familiar well-behaved IE screen with the menus and
keyboard shortcuts I love. But when I try to start IE from the start
screen or through search, it's this weird app layout.
