[Blindtlk] Going To A Hotel

The last time I was in a casino, I found it to be really boring, but
anyway...Where I was they don't actually use money. You have to go to the
cashier's desk and get a card. It's sort of like a credit card on a bungee
cord you could clip to your clothes or purse or whatever. They give you a
few courtesy credits if you're also a hotel guest. I ended up with $5,
which was all I spent in the casino. At the slot machine, you swipe the
card, push a button and wait. The screen does something, then quiets, if
there's no music, you've lost and can push the button again. Nonvisually
there was no way to know how close you came to winning or if you did win, no
way to know how much. Well, I suppose when you went to cash out you'd know,
unless you played more. Oh, there was also no way to know which machines
were the $1 or $100 or anything in between.

They had other stuff besides just the slots like cards, roulette and bingo.
I'd think roulette would be accessible because it's all in the betting. The
dealer/spinner? whatever the person is called, could verbally tell you what
bets are out.

Did you ask to see if there was anything else going on at the hotel?
Sometimes there are comedy shows or other things that are going on that
might be fun. I'm just not a gambling sort of person, so the other things
are what I'd be drawn to. Oh, the food was amazing! I did thoroughly enjoy
the hotel restaurants!

My tenth anniversary is on Thursday and I haven't planned doing anything. I
had better get it in gear! *smile*

I've only been to a cassino once, and it was with my daughter. WE had fun
taking 3 hours to blow $20. She basically acted as the screen reader for
me, but found most of the machines had similar button layouts.

This was several years ago, and I don't know if the machines are all touch
screen now or how they work. From my limited exposure, though, I would say
you would need someone to read the displays on the machines. Whenever we
would win money, for example, the machines would produce a slip of thin
paper, like a redemption ticket you turn in for cash.

Whenever at a strange hotel, and I've been to many, I always ask the general
layout when I arrive. Once doing this walk-through, I've had very little
trouble finding where I want to go on my own.

Best.

Judy

Hello,

So I have a question that I thought I might be able to find an answer to
here.

My wife and I are going away for a couple of nights this week for our
three-year anniversary. We’re going to a hotel/casino.

I called them to see how they could help us, since we’ve never been there
before. They said they could have someone from security help us from
place-to-place as we need it, so that is useful.

One thing I’m wondering about though. We’d like to go to the casino, which
is right inside the hotel. I’m not sure how we can do this accessibly. They
said they can’t have someone do anything more than just show us to our
destination. I’m wondering what options we might be able to pursue so we can
do this and enjoy our anniversary.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
Brandon
