They are a place of public business so need to conform to the ADA by 
providing reasonable accomodation, whatever form that takes that is 
agreeable to the store and the customer.

That's ridiculous! At 4 A.M. they were wasting more time arguing with
you than it would have taken them to find the items you needed.
I'm not sure if grocery stores are required to provide assistance but
it seems on par with wheelchair accessibility. If they can't provide
packages labeled in Braille, providing reader services seems like a
reasonable accommodation.
