[Blindtlk] a sincere appology, and a possible discrimination case.

Well, considering the practice of some goodwill outlets of paying their
disabled, including blind, workers subminimum wages, it's hardly surprising
that some of their staff would be so atrociously ignorant, and perhaps even
stupid about blind people, and not really care that a real live blind person
might try to correct them.

Wow, this is atrocious. I had a similar experience at Goodwill which was
promptly taken care of. I called in to say that I'd be coming in and
asked when would be the best time on a particular day. The lady said
when they open is the best time before it gets busy. So I arranged a
ride and got there at opening time. The manager on duty that day
promptly informed me that all blind people have aides and next time I
needed not to come to a store by myself but to bring this imaginary aide
along. She did this in front of other customers as well which was
humiliating. I informed her that blind people do not have aides, that we
live independently and we are allowed to have help when we come in a
store. Luckily I had friends in high places and had met the district
manager of Goodwill. After a brief phone call in front of the manager, I
was given assistance. She was unapologetic and went off muttering about
blind people needing aides.
