They would never have believed in a lot of things we take for granted, and 
they would have never, I mean never, believed in the idea of a consumer 
organization made up of independent, confident blind people advocating for 
their rights.  Nor would they have any concept of a country such as the 
United States, whose political system made such an organization possible.

Well, you know Arielle, we must all of us remember that Jesus was dealing 
with a simple minded pesantry in those days.  But, Jesus himself said that 
it was neither the sins of the blind man nor his parents that caused his 
blindness.  We notice a bit of nerve on the part of the blind man when he 
told off the faracies too:  "I have told you already what he did.  Do you 
want to hear it again?  Will you believe in him too?"

Also, he must surely have had some measure of independence because, if not, 
would Jesus have told him to go and wash his face in the pool if he had no 
way of getting there?  I dare say that Jesus knew even back then about the 
eventual coming of the NFB and all we would stand for:  but, just think how 
the pesantry would have reacted if he would have told them?  They would not 
have believed him and it would have added to the things his detractors said 
against him.
