[Blindtlk] Does JAWS read PDF's?

Mari,

 It depends on the nature of the PDF. JAWS will read text based PDFs as long as you have a program such as Adobe which can read them. Image based PDFs, however, won't be able to be read with JAWS because the text is embedded in the picture. This includes scanned image PDF's—that is, a PDF copy of a printed text that has been scanned. This may be the problem you're running into with your book: Your disability service office sent you a copy of the scanned book. If this is the case, you can either email it to convert at robobraille.org with an accessible format (such as DOC or TXT) in the subject, or do OCR on it with Kurzweil or OpenBook on the PC or KNFB Reader on the iPhone.
