That is true when you are naturally walking and striding out, but when you 
are in a crowded environment, that is not always practical, but as soon as 
there is clearance, you should start back with the traditional cane 
technique, as that is the safest.

Ah, I see. Some staff members at the school for the blind discourage that 
mostly because they have been taught that using the cane is always about 
having it out straight out.
