My bank will alert you when it sends the check and how much is going. You can do it audo pay or manually with many banks.

Very true, and I did not think of that. The bill pay system on the bank we use monthly. I do not use auto-pay as I at least like to see the money go by on its way from the checking account (smiles). When we make checks to our daughters or to someone else, we type them out.

Two thoughts:
1) A check writing guide. Most places like Maxi Aids... have them and they are usually pretty cheep.
2) Your bank may be able to mail checks for you. My bill pay at my bank's site allows me to create a specific person or company where I want a check to be sent that requires paper checks. My bank then processes the request and cuts a hand-written check on my behalf and mails it (no charge to me). I think most bill pays through banks now have these so you might check that with your bank. Typically you can do these as one time or repeated. Since my rent can only be paid with a physical paper check and has no electronic billing, I use this and it works great! It goes through your checking account just like a normal check would. It is standard for anyone, at least at my bank, so you do not need to have proof of a disability... for this to be done.
Hope these help!

Dear friends,
Does anyone know of a free program that is usable for printing, and filling out checks? I am mainly looking for an accessible way to independently fill out the checks that I must send out each month for utility bills and such. Right now I have to have a sighted friend do my checks, and it would be really nice to be able to do them myself! Unfortunately a couple of the bills that I pay each month, will not accept electronic payments, so I have to send them actual paper checks.
I am using a computer with Windows 7, with Microsoft Office Professional.
Thank you for your help!
James
