[Blindtlk] How do blind people have garage sales?

Hi. I had a 2-day garage sale, but I had two sighted people to help me. Months before my sale, I had photos taken of the big items and alphabetized the other items in a list with their respective prices I was asking for listed as well. I then made a multi-page flyer in Microsoft Word by typing in text boxes, with sighted help. They were done in landscape and folded in half. We arranged it like a book, putting the photos on the first couple of pages, and had the listing of other items on the remaining pages. We then went to Kinkos/fedex store to print out copies. We got about 1,000 flyer booklets and put them in plastic bags. These bags came from U-Line and had a hole in them to hang the bag on a doorknob. We delivered all 1,000 flyer bags to neighbors and surrounding towns. We hung the bags on mailbox flags or layed it between the mailbox and the flag., because going in someone's mailbox is breaking the law. For apartments, we left the flyer bags on the doormats, because we did not want to hang them on the doorknobs. It worked out well. We had a large turnout and had theft of only two items, a CD and a cup. I know, petty right? It cost under $100 for the supplies, but I made more than what we planned and I got rid of a lot of stuff.

The planning took time, but it was well worth it. We started at 9 AM and people showed up with their flyers from 7 AM! They knew what they wanted and came for it. No need for them to linger. I was told many people had the items they wanted circled. Good luck on yours.

I currently rent, and may have to borrow somebody's front or back yard to have a garage sale. I'm just curious to know if anyone on here has ever done one before? How much sighted help, aside from transporting all the stuff over there, is needed? Can a blind person successfully carry out the process of having a garage sale? The only thing I can see might be problematic might be payment. One of the things I will be selling is a huge upright freezer which will cost a significant amount. Would it be best to have the buyer pay me through Pay'Pal for this item if they have an account?
