That's all certainly true. This organization we are in as filled with all
kinds of people. I would also point out that anyone can have a bad day and
say things they wouldn't normally say. I know I've certainly done it, even
to good friends. So let's have compassion and courtesy all around, and
forgiveness where necessary.

May I ask how many of us know Diane? Do we know that she is a member of the
NFB? I would not have suggested that Chris get a life, but I wouldn't have
taken the comment to mean that this was the attitude of the National
Federation of the Blind either. We have a man in our affiliate who doesn't
like guide dogs. Sometimes he refers to them as mutts or flea bags. So, is
this the position of the NFB because he is an NFB member? Of course it
isn't, and right now we are fighting for the right of guide dog users to
work in a food bank.
Please be careful about assuming that anything you see on the list
represents the opinion of the organization. Please also understand that
asking for greater moderation means necessarily the lessening of freedom. Do
we want David to look at each message to decide whether or not it is
appropriate? I don't think we do. Let's all be tolerant, not only of the
questioner but also of the person who offers a comment that rubs us the
wrong way. And let's not assume that because it appears on an NFB list that
it represents a position held by the Federation. My grandmother told me to
work at being polite, and very often it is just what the doctor ordered.

Don't judge the NFB by one person.
