[Blindtlk] Kindle For PC?

You have to make sure to download the PC version with accessibility plug in.
I might still have the link to it, if they haven't updated it. As Lloyd
says, you can then read the menus with your screen reader and use the built
in TTS for the books. But it is often clunky and frustrating, just
navigating your list of books to choose one to read is so frustrating I
often want to throw my keyboard across the room. But if you can get past
that, it's a great way to read. You don't have the kind of control you do
with a screen reader, but you can go back and forward by pages, and kindle
pages are very short, or you can go to a specific page, beginning, that sort
of thing. I put up with the eccentricities because it's another way to read,
access to books not available anywhere else.

For one thing, it's not Google but Amazon. The last I knew, you needed to
download an "accessible" version of the Kindle program. It allowed you to
navigate the menus with your screen reader, and then begin reading a book
with a built-in synthesizer, not using your screen reader. You didn't have
very much control over the reading process. This was several years ago, but
I don't think the situation has changed.

Hello, Folks,

I read Kindle books on my Wine Smart device all the time, but recently
wanted to try Kindle for PC. I downloaded it, but found that I could not
navigate it at all with Jaws. Have you all experienced this? Would love to

hear back from Kindle users, and maybe where I went wrong or what I can do.
I am really hoping this thing is accessible with Jaws, and would be very
surprised if not, Google being Google.

Thanks very much.

Judy
