[Blindtlk] non 24

I would caution you, again. Please, let's not get our porcupine quills out
ready to strike at that person. I think the thing to do is to politely
educate that person, the way it sounds like you've been doing, but remember
they probably don't really think we're a bunch of idiots. And it's probably
not meant with disrespect, just someone speaking without thinking and
probably with no malicious intent whatsoever. Sometimes I think we are way,
way too quick to assume the worst in people when such remarks are made, and
that person is maybe, just maybe, trying in their scared, uneducated ways,
to learn and we don't help ourselves if we don't allow them that
opportunity. For example, I have had people act surprised when they have
heard that I work and have worked much of my life. While that response
jolted me when I was walking with someone in our building the other day to
our local coffee shop, I just gently pointed out to her that most blind
people want to work and a lot of us have been successfully been employed.
It's all part of educating people and it can sometimes be a pain in the
buttocks, but it must be done and it must be done with compassion and
courtesy! End of lecture, for the moment, LOL.

Hello... I agree with you, and have been completely surprised over what
this advertisement conveys!

I am a night owl, mainly because I have been a professional musician for
over 35 years, so my body is conditioned to be awake later in the evening
than what a normal work schedule would allow. But over the last few months,
I have had several people comment that they now understand why I stay up
later at night, because as a blind person, I wouldn't understand whether it
was day or night outside because it would all be the same to me. Although I
have been polite in my response, my private thoughts have been closer to
"what the heck are they talking about, and just how stupid do they think a
blind person is"! It seems as if political correctness has become applied
to everyone, other than the blind! Folks can believe, and say anything
disrespectful and offensive to us, and it is all OK because blind folks have
so many different challenges in life. Well I don't recall me ever thinking
to myself, "wow, is it day or night? I just can't tell if I should go to
bed, or run a marathon!" LOLL

James

Hi,

I've been hearing commercials about the non 24 drug on the radio and don't
appreciate how it makes blind people sound.
I'm wondering if there are really blind people that don't know when it is
time to sleep or go to work?
The commercials imo make blind people sound like idiots and it's hard enough
to be employed already.
Bryan
