[Blindtlk] non 24

We have the company at the New York State convention back in October, they
do a fine study prior to putting anyone on the meds, and not just say here
take the meds. Gary Wunder was our National Rep this year.

I am going through some testing as we speak, since I have some sleep apnea,
and he also mentioned this is not only for blind people to use but anyone
that might have been misdiagnosed with Sleep Apnea.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.

Good evening Mark and everyone,

That's two of us. I know a number of our friends who have been diagnosed
with Sleep Apnea or are awaiting a sleep study to screen for it. This Non-24
stuff worries me because some blind people may be told they have Non-24
Disorder when in fact they have Sleep Apnea, a condition that can kill if
not properly diagnosed and treated.

I think that's probably true. And I have light perception in the left eye,
and more than once I was reprimanded in work situations about falling asleep
in boring staff meetings, LOL. I hate to admit it because I felt like a
sherker. I sometimes thought the people lecturing me were taking personal
offense because they were the ones presenting the meeting material. I
finally found out that I do in fact have sleep apnea and the cpap machine
has made a world of difference for me. Also my tendency to drink huge
amounts of strong coffee during the day hasn't hurt either.

I do believe it exists, but there are other triggers that can affect the
body clock's timing, not just blindness.

I am totally blind and have anophthalmia, and I do think non-24 does exist
and am one of the small percentage of blind people who have it. However,
melatonin works fine for me, so the Vanda Pharmaseuticals drug is not needed
for my personal situation. I agree with the previous posters about the
commercial. The product should be marketed toard blind people who have eye
conditions in which non-24 is more prevalent. The commercial almost makes it
sound like all blind people have it, causing more misconceptions.
