[Blindtlk] Question about SSI

Just to keep this all in perspective, my wife and I use one of the new
labeling systems that the drugstores are making available. Although we often
still put braille labels on the bottles we get, it is wonderful to have the
ability to independently read and update our bottles.

About a week ago I called my pharmacy to say that one of my medications had
not been delivered. They agreed to investigate, said they went back and
counted their stock, and felt confident that what I had ordered was in the
bag that had been delivered. Now it used to be that when I had an argument
with someone I always came in on a big white horse, never seriously
considering I might be wrong. I don't know how many times I went to set the
bank straight and left with my tail between my legs. We could talk about the
horse's tail, but Mark Twain already did that. I thanked the pharmacist and
agreed to go back through the bag. I scanned all of the medications, made a
pile for Debbie, made a pile for me, and still could not come up with the
missing drug. Since it is rather important, I called the pharmacy and asked
what we might do. They agreed to jawbone with the insurance company to say
that I had lost some medication and needed a temporary refill.

Yesterday while working with a secretary that bag got knocked over. I asked
her to put the contents back into the bag, ensuring that each of the bottles
belonged to Debbie. What do you know; one of them belonged to me. It was the
missing medication. I got out the reader, scanned the bottle, and was told
that this was one of the medications belonging to Debbie.

Our drugstore has decided that it needs to do better quality control, but if
this can happen with something as important as the proper labeling of
medicine, I am not surprised when it happens in cases which are less
involved with life and death.

Of course, but a government job should have several systems of checks and
balances in place. I'm sorry but there's no reason for such a major issue.
