Hi, Laz,
Yes, I am with AT&T, and I got a notice in my messaging from them, probably because my phone is currently making use of the Edge tower. Because I love this Android phone so much, I called right away.
The tech support rep, did, in fact, confirm, that the old flip phone network is going away. Although mine is a smart flip phone, I was concerned, but mine will also run on the newer networks.
The rep also pulled up a view of the towers in our area, and many are still on the Edge network that will be going away. I was told that since my phone will run on the LTE network, that after the disappearance of Edge, that LTE will show up in my status bar on the screen. He thought that if I were to be located in a different part of the country where there are more modern network towers, that those networks would show up.
I found out about the Wine Smart on the Android list, as my husband's old Nokia was dying and he did not want to move to a touch screen phone. I found out and purchased to try, liked it so much, that I bought one for myself.
The drawbacks are only 4 GB internal memory, but the memory expansion offsets that. I run all my apps, or at least as many as I can from the 32 GB SD card.
The other drawback is that the camera is not the best. I keep my G4 around to use the camera, but that's about it.
In every other way, the Wine Smart is a great phone. I use it to do all my messaging and get on the Internet, all the stuff one does with the phone. I love having the physical keys for dialing when I want them, but make equal use of the touch screen. It is bigger than many flip phones.
When I have shown it to acquaintances, they see that it is, yes, a flip phone. Then, when I open it to show the screen, the response is always, "Wow!"
I know of 4 people who are seriously considering getting one. The high end one from Ebay is around $246, but I think worth every penny, and aside from the poor camera and small internal storage, performs as well as my G4, or any of the other Galaxy phones I have had.
I also use GoogleMaps, Google Now, BARD, Kindle, and it works seamlessly with my braille note taker. I haven't found any quirkiness to it.
I will say that some apps let you use the buttons for navigation and execution, while others, such as Youtube, will not, but I have been using a touch screen for so long that this doesn't bother me.
Oh yes, you can also do the T9 texting with it, if you turn off BrailleBack. In other words, you can toggle between the modes.
This also has an external battery, which has always appealed to me.
Anyway, there you have it.
Thanks for writing back so promptly.
Below is an informational link to the Wine Smart.

Hi Judy,
Do you have a link for this claim? The reason is that I've been hearing this for a couple of years now and no one has ever been able to provide actual proof of this claim. All I hear is, "a friend told me blah blah blah..."
Thanks,
Laz
