Hello,
I use a braillenote apex bt as a braille display with my iPhone. It is an older piece of technology, and while it is still (mostly) compatible with newer technologies it may not always be so. The one issue that I have with it is a pretty big deal. If you're using an apex bt, the backspace and enter keys don't do what they're supposed to. This means that you cannot delete something once you have typed it, and you cannot insert new lines. For this reason alone, I would advise something else.
I have also used a focus 14 blue, made by freedom scientific. I had few problems with this display but having only 14 cells was inconvenient.
The only other display I have used is the APH refreshabraille which was a nice basic braille display.
These are the only ones I have any experience with, hope it helped some.
