Hi Larry,
	I have had this same problem with Direct. I was having trouble with my box and called in for assistance. I told the person that I was blind. At one point, she told me to make sure that the wires were plugged into the correct spots. I told her that they were. She told me to look at the back of the box to make sure. I told her that I was blind and was unable to do that. Her response. Are you ready for it?
She told me to put some light on it.
I said to her, "Um Mam, we can put all the light on it we want and it won't make any bit of a difference. 
She said "are you serious?" I said yes, I'm finished with you, and now you can send someone to my home to fix it.
She did and they came 2 days later.
As far as the talking remote goes, I know they are working on it. I was told that when I did a study for Direct TV.

Thank you Brinda: I finally got enough information out of the tech people to do just that.  The first problem I had was trying to get them to understand what blind, or can't see, or my eyes don't work ment. The third person could speak English well enough to understand and  give me the instructions.
Now I would like to ask, is their a talking remote for Direct tv which can be purchased?

How long ago did you get your current equipment? If it has been in the last year and a half, you already have the accessible equipment. All you have to do is activate it.
