The last apartment complex I rented, someone from the Base Housing
Office went with me and photographed the entire apartment and found
defects and let the landlord know then and there.  I was not held
responsible for those defects later and those photos and notes were kept
in my file in the Base Housing Office in the event of any future
disputes.  If you have any support from local blindness agencies perhaps
such a service could be done for you by one of their employees.
Also, have numbers in phone for transportation and have a grocery list
in hand so as soon as you move in you can do a grocery run or perhaps
have groceries delivered and that way you won't go hungry.  Find out
where the dumpster is in relation to your apartment by walking to and
from it and making notes of landmarks you can use later.
