Hi,
I have been building a rc pulling truck and weight sled out of aluminum bars
and sheet.
It's a bit pricy but a good purchase was the talking tape measure that also
can speak angles.
Another good purchase was a small metal vice for holding parts during filing
or drilling/sawing.
I've made my own jig from 1" wide x 1/8th thick aluminum angle to clamp
other aluminum sheet. The jig is held together with a bolt and wing nut at
each end and provides a straight edge that I can follow with a hack saw.
Don't throw away every scrap as they can be used to experiment/test an idea
or like a one inch square scrap will measure something else exactly every
time.
Use a sheet or old towel to catch filings and drill corkscrews then you can
shake it out.
It's good to have visual assistance to double check measurements as the tape
doesn't always voice the correct measurement and it's faster to have someone
mark what you want with a sharpee then dent the center point with a hammer
and nail.
Drill presses are pretty expensive so try your best to keep a drill
straight/90 degrees to the part or you will snap drill bits when trying to
drill brass and thicker aluminum.

Subject: [BlindTlk] Learning Handicraft Skills
All,
Does anybody have any suggestions on what skills are the most feasible to
learn while blind that involve handicrafts? I'm thinking of working with
wood, metal etc, building, things like that. I know that the NFB training
centers teach some of this, but my family situation does not make it
feasible for me to go there. Are there any ways to learn these on your own
or work with a sighted person who can figure out ways to teach the skills?
