[BlindTlk] Laptop shutting down half hour when on battery.

Take the battery out and check if it still does this. If it doesn't, the
battery is bad.

Thanks for such a prompt response.

I can either be working in it, or listening to media with it when this
happens.

The battery status remains high, so it doesn't seem to be a battery problem,
that was my first thought.

I did check the power options, because I thought I might have inadvertently
changed them, but no, with the lid closed, on battery, the setting is Do
Nothing.

Dear Judy:

I think I am a little bit confused as to how your laptop will be shutting
down abruptly while you are using it. I am wondering if it is actually going
to sleep or hybernating? How does it shut down? Does it shut down while you
are working in it or are you leaving it turned on and in the background?

You might want to check the battery status on it. To do that, in JAWS, use
Insert+Shift+B. It will tell you the percentage and the time remaining.

Sometimes, laptops just don't work when their batteries are being worn out
and batteries can last only for so long. When the battery gets to about 5%
of lower, it will automatically go into a deep sleep (hybernation) and you
plug in the AC adapter in order to turn it back on.

Let us know if or how we might help.

Sincerely,

Humberto

Hello,

I have noticed that my laptop has started to shut down about a half hour
after being off the charger.

Immediately, once back on the charger and starting up again, I checked the
power options to see if there had been any changes. The charge percentage
is high, so the battery seems fine. My power options are set to do nothing
when closing the lid, because I take my laptop off charger to move around
with me.

Does anyone have an idea why my laptop may be turning off despite the high
battery charge and unchanged power settings.

Thanks, as always, for your collective wisdom.

Judy
