If you expect to use a computer for productivity and also need to learn,
it's probably wise to have two laptops. one for your learning and the
other for your productivity. That way when you wipe out all your data on
your learning laptop you don't destroy what's on your productivity laptop.
I tried to buy jaws for my home computer and the demo wouldn't work even
after a patch disk was sent and applied so I bought window-eyes and
installed it on my home computer with no problems at all. The sticking
point for jaws was video drivers and my machine had one they didn't even
support at that time.
Another instance of jaws failure happened at work.

I was asked to go to a secure area and help a technician out who ended up
calling freedomscientific to solve this problem. Since the Navy is like
its ships slow to update authorized software the referbished computer I
got had a video driver on it that wouldn't work with the navy's authorized
jaws version. The next version up did have that driver so was installed
temporarily on the system with video drivers being copied into the
authorized version's directory. Then the new version of jaws was erased.
A lady in the security hierarchy questioned my presence in the secure area
and I explained I got a phoned invitation from the technician to come into
that area and help out.
Window-eyes wasn't particular about which video driver was used on
computer systems fortunately for me.
