Hello Erica,
I would be happy to chat with you by phone about getting started with NVDA.
It would be easier for me to give you specific instructions, based on your current needs, if we talked on the phone.
If you would like to chat, email me off list with a phone number and some times that I could call.
Email me at:

Warmly,
Heather

Heather, how would you go about it if you did not have the experience of window eyes before you switch to NVDA? I have some experience with jaws, but not even close to proficient. Are use magnification and limited speech until hi I was not really able to use magnification anymore. Are used capital MAGIC with speech but that was about eight years ago now. I’ve mostly relied on my iPhone since then.
Thanks for any advice Heather you can give me. Please others, chime in!
Please, no one suggest that I go to a training center. I’ve done that. I just really struggled with software and computers in general and when you don’t have the technology to practice away from the center you don’t become as proficient. I just finally after four yrears obtain laptop.

I am really pleased with it. I can’t imagine ever going back to JAWS. There are some video tutorials available on the NVDA website but you have to buy them.

I use a table in Word 2007, and after adding a line to my budget, I need to go to the bottom and change the line numbers, which are in a field box. The field opens up, like it did on my windows 7 machine, but I can?t change the line numbers because NVDA doesn?t speak what?s in the field. So, I need help with that. So if anyone knows about that, I?d appreciate it, or how to ask NVDA how to do it. I know it?s not common to use word 2007 with windows 10, but I paid for it and feel I should be able to use it. It works well, except for that issue.
