Hi,

One thing that is never said is if you think the nfb will help you become employed, you are highly mistaken!

Hi, Sydney,

It has always been the case that blind people have to work harder at finding and maintaining employment. Nevertheless, we do find and maintain employment, and can be very successful. Our NFB literature speaks quite adequately to this issue, especially some written by Dr. Jernigan.

One of the reasons for this is that the blind are such a tiny minority in society, even compared to other disability groups. Because of this, we are little understood, and we continually are ineducation mode, when it comes to debunking myths and stereotypes of blindness.
Therefore, if we are going to make our way and prove ourselves and our skills in the work world, we statistically average more pre-employment interviews, and need to make sure such skills as reading, writing and spelling are top-notch. Dictation is no substitute.

Example. in a post I read just above this one, someone referred to a board meeting, spelling the word noun board as the adjective bored. The spellings of both words are difference, but screen readers alone will not point out these differences when simply reading back. There were other obvious Siri mistakes in the post as well.

Hi, everyone:

There is a huge problem for some blind people that they are facing. It could be hard for some blind people to get a job, because some work places don't want to hier them, because they're blind.

I've heard them talk about this alot in the national conventions. This year in our virtual convention, I've heard them talking about this.
