[BlindTlk] House Cleaning

I had a Swiffer wet jet, and I got rid of it, because I determined that your
floors have to already be mostly cleaned in order for it to work. Pam.

I don't like the Swiffer either and that is what my grown children use. I
just don't see how going quickly over the floor does a thorough job.

I had much the same jobs as you did as a child Judy.

Nope, you can do it. It's all in the techniques and keeping up with it.

The biggest thing you can do is to police your area. Systematically feel
your counter tops, windows and sills, stovetop, back of the range, hood,
microwave etc.

One thing in the kitchen I always forget is the top of the fridge, but my
mom did too, and she was sighted. Right now, mine needs attention.

When growing up my job was dusting, windows/mirrors and floors, once a
week.

The thing we can't see are walls and door frames and upper ceiling corners.
The upper corners can hold cobwebs, and I don't remember to do those all the
time, but enough to not have a problem. When I have the step ladder out, I
check by feel. While you're up there, door sashes and/door tops can use
dusting.

Dawn, 409 Lemon, and Klorox toilet bowl are my favorite cleaners. I have
lots of rags and keep the dirty ones separate from our clothes for
laundering.

Actually, I would love to learn of any other house cleaning tips from you
guys I may not have thought of.

While the Swiffer mop or broom or long-reach wand are great for sighted
people to use, you don't get the touch feedback that way.

Oh yeah, the other thing we can't see are fingerprints at door knobs, frames
and switch outlets, so you can never go wrong giving them a regular wipe
down.

I would say that it's probably impossible for a blind person, alone, to
keep: "an immaculate house,"; but, this is just my opinion on the matter.

Floor sweeping, cleaning windowsills and dusting. Is it even possible for a
blind person to keep an immaculate house, or is sighted assistance always
needed?

Hi there,
I think you're going to have to be more specific. There are certainly
techniques, but what are you wanting to clean or have look nice?

Are there alternative techniques for cleaining what you can't see so the
house is immaculate? Thanks.
