I'm a new Amazon member myself.

Anyway, when you find the item you want, open the page, and press "Add to
Cart" button. Then, it should say "added to cart."

Press "cart" button to go back to your cart. Then hit "proceed to checkout."

I found an item I'd like to buy but can't put it in my cart and can't
check out.  I forgot how I did that last amazon purchase since that wasn't
an easy or intuitive experience either.
