[BlindTlk] [BlTlk] FW: [NFB-NAGDU] NAGDU's response concerning the recent discussions about Southeastern Guide Dogs

Hi, Ray. I do owe you a serious apology for telling you that you should
"get gone" if that's how you feel. Obviously, this organization is made up
of many folks who have different political stances, some of us quite
left-wing, some of us quite conservative. There should be room for all of
us when it comes to dealing with issues that impact blind people, so I am
deeply sorry for my very caustic remarks I said earlier. I'll leave it at
that for now so I don't stray off into other areas, but I guess you've
gotten the message that I am very left-wing in a lot of areas, which is
certainly true. But I still think I owe you a big apology.

Hi, Ray,
Certainly you would be missed if you gave or sent your resignation. Our
personal political stance is not what makes one a Federationist. Your
supporting blindness-related philosophy and work are what is important, and
you do contribute to that kind of thing.

Politically, the extremes of either left or right can be dangerous; the left
isn't worse than the right and the right isn't worse than the left. But
those extremes are not what make up most NFB-ers.

There would be no NFB without all of us--a diverse movement of blind
persons, and some nonblind among us.

Blessings,
Lauren

Nor am I happy with the leftist direction the NFB has taken. To speak
frankly, I am very concerned to see the NFB support a socialist organization
like Black Lives Matter (who wants to destroy America) and this really is
almost a step too far for me. As the recent years have gone by, I have seen
the NFB fall backwards little by little with respect to ground we supposedly
gained. While it is true to say that we should not always be in an armed
camp mentality, neither should we forget how to fight if we have to. OF
late, this seems to have escaped us. I now have some cause to wonder
whether a person like me really can find a place in the NFB as it now
exists. I dare speculate that if I myself tendered my resignation, I would
not be missed either very much or even at all: after all, I contribute
nothing to the organization either monetarily or otherwise. Don’t mistake
me. I agree with the philosophy that the federation teaches (or maybe I
should say it this way, the philosophy that it taught when I was at the
Louisiana Center); but now, I question whether a blind political
conservative like me really belongs in the federation at all. I dare
speculate that if I today submitted my membership resignation and gave my
reasons, Mark would most likely not even bother to respond.

I will never apologize for my Whiteness, my Catholicism or my Southernness
