[BlindTlk] Effective way of fixing something using glue

Hi,
Being totally blind, I haven't had many opportunities to do anything
like this, so sorry about asking.
I need to fix something minor I have (a decoration) which is best done
by simply gluing two sections back together, and I was advised to use
some regular Elmer's glue which would be a way of making sure things
stick. Not super glue.
I was told to put plenty of glue on one part and make sure and cover
the entire surface with it before attaching the other part. I was also
told to use a few beads, but what does that mean?
I have a small bottle of the Elmer's white glue that I can use.
A sighted friend told me to wait until I can get someone to help me
because glue is messy and I won't really know if everything is covered
well or not.
I kind of think this might be a small enough project I can do. I just
need strategies.
What is a bead of glue, and how can I tell? And, what is a good way to
coat a surface with plenty of glue and know how much is on? My sighted
friend said I needed a brush, which I don't have. I'm working with
cardboard and plastic. I suppose now that my sighted friend told me, I
am worried about making a mess.
Any advice?
Tom
