Yes, the longer the cane is, especially if you are a fast walker, the more time you hav to put on the brakes when finding an object or step.

Subject: [BlindTlk] Cane length response

Madison,
Growing up and when I was in school my O and Minstructors first recommended that my cane length should be to my sternum. Then it was recommended it should go to your chin. I know the NFB instructors used to teach at least that it should go to the bridge of your nose and I think I read that Kenneth Jernigan had a cane that went to his forehead but now I’m not sure what they recommend which just goes to show from the constant changing of recommendations that nobody really seems to know what length it should be so I would just go with whatever length feels good to you. I think it also depends on which type of cane you have because the NFB canes have always been longer than the canes sold by Ambuteck or other sellers.
