[BlindTlk] Cane length response

Though I come somewhat late to this matter, here’s how I always used to do it and still do.

While barefoot, (which I always am anyhow), I measure the prospective cane to make sure its very top is just under my nose.  I want it no higher than my nose but no lower than my top lip.  Now, considering that I’m five feet six inches if measured barefoot, that puts the length of my cane at 59 inches.  For me, that seems to be best.  As for the type of cane, I have no quarrel with the straight cane and no how to use one in crowded areas.  After all, it’s the type we were taught with at the Louisiana center for the blind.  However, nowadays, I prefer the telescopic canes of carbon fiber.  I always get mine from the NFB.  Well, HTH.
