[BlindTlk] Social Security over payment question

Kishia,

I gather from another post that you are in Colorado. It is very likely that there might be people within the NFB of Colorado that can be helpful. Start by contacting your president.

As Judy already said, it is important to respond in some way to the Social Security Administration in a timely manner so you appear cooperative. If you feel that there are reasons that you didn't think you were overpaid, you will probably want to file an appeal. The letter should tell you what the deadline is for filing an appeal and that is important. If you knew you were overpaid, or if you were overpaid because you didn't provide information about work you were doing, it will be hard to succeed in an appeal. If you have to pay it back but can't afford it, you might be able to work something out with them. However, ignoring them is not an option.

Something like this is always upsetting. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Subject: [BlindTlk] Social Security over payment question

Hello, sorry if this is off-topic or if I should not post this or if it's unrelated to this particular list, but I am wondering what to do about an overpayment notice that I received from Social Security if I'm not able to afford to pay it back. Is there anyone who was knowledgeable about this and would be able to Give me advice or direction? Are there any advocates or lawyers or any type of way that I can question this? Thank you.
