[blparent] Seeking blind parents who have adopted

Dear List,

 

My husband and I, who are both blind, are beginning the process to adoption.  We currently are gathering information and this week we will attend an informational meeting with a local adoption agency.

We are seeking encouragement from all family and friends, however this is not always easy as many still doubt our ability to be parents.  If any of you have adopted, especially where both parents are blind, we would appreciate hearing from you and learning about your experiences and processes.

We are extremely nervous especially considering the scrutiny one is put through when adopting.  I do not expect our blindness to be an unsurmountable obstacle, but it would be great to have as much support as possible.
