[blparent] immunizing.

Shannon,

It has always been my understanding that autism is generally present before eighteen months even if it is not as obvious. I am not an expert and could certainly be
wrong, but I would wonder about attributing a needle at 18 months as the cause.

In particular, there is a lot of attention being given to autism now because it has become more common. However, I haven't read anything that I felt was truly
conclusive, and there are really a whole range of possibilities given how society has changed over the past fifty years. Even the ability to detect it has improved so
we can't be completely certain of our statistical base.

One of the things I don't like about parenting is that there is a lot of guesswork, trying to choose the road that may only tend to cause the least amount of problems
rather than guaranteeing any kind of sure success. We face this over and over again, it seems. Therefore, in my mind, immunizations probably are the least of the
evils unless one knows of a particular problem or risk in a particular child. Of course, I am not trying to deal with religious beliefs that some have, that is a different
matter altogether. You will quickly find that you can find something to back up pretty much any position you take regarding parenting which is very frustrating. While
none of us are as experts as some authors, I believe that there is a good deal that is written that is more opinion than expertise. Sometimes the opinion is backed up
in such a way that it is very useful so I don't reject all of it for that reason, but you simply are stuck with having to sort things out sometimes by considering what
makes sense to you and by talking to people you trust.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
