This is a great point.  I think a lot of kids enjoy listening to stories
that are above the level they can actually read.  I'm not saying read your
child War And Peace, but I think it is OK to try books slightly above what
you think they might enjoy just to see if they like them.  If not, no harm
done.  If so, then you're really helping them gain vocabulary and a love tof
reading and stories.

My public library has recorded books which I am using with my six year old.
I have to get the children's librarian to help me select books.    My son is
really enjoying listening to books several grades above his actual level.
And he likes looking at the art work on the front cover of the tapes or cds.
