Subject: [blparent] Sassy Children

Now, I realize I might have an unpopular opinion, but I believe that even
two-year-olds can be sassy ... mine is going through this phase where she
thinks she can scream at Mommy when she's upset. If I tell her no (because
that's usually all it takes), she starts crying. Well, I wouldn't even
really call it crying, more like whining. I ignore that, because it's not
worth giving her attention for the whining. As soon as she starts screaming
at me, though, she gets spanked for it. I try not to use spanking for
everything, but disrespect is one of those things that will certainly
warrant a spanking.

Some would say that perhaps she is just venting frustration and doesn't know
any other way to do it. That is fine with me. She can cry about it if she
wants, in another room, but I won't tolerate screaming or yelling back at
me.

I try to talk to her, before and after the spanking, using simple sentences,
hoping that if she doesn't understand now, she will eventually grow to learn
what it all means.
