And, as Kate said, documentation is always a good thing, the more
specific the better.

I am all for being prepared for the unexpected though there is a fine
line between educating and causing a panic. I would like to point out
that these agencies have the child and families best interest in mind.
My husband use to work for DCF in New York and I asked him if he ever
had cases where a blind parent lost their children because of just being
blind.

He told me in the twelve years he was in the field and the five he
trained behind a desk that he only remembers maybe five calls having to
do with blind parents. He pointed out that there were a few removed but
they were removed because of either Neglect, lack of adequate clothing,
abuse, living in filth, endangerment regardless if the parent was aware
that what they did caused the dangerous situation. The main goal is to
keep families together that is why there are parenting classes offered
to parents who fall in to categories that cause a case to be open. Its
up to the parent if they want to take them and they are informed of
ramifications if they don't except the assistance.

No one is out to get you because you're a blind parent they just can't
imagine parenting a child with out sight so they ask questions. I would
rather they ask then just take my kids and leave me with no recourse, I
think these agencies are too involved at times but parents should
remember to only give relevant information not just start telling them
every thing only answer what they ask and offer nothing.

OK that's my two cense, Jumping off of soap box. *smile* Kate
