Hey Jen,
I agree with Melissa. My daughter slept in a bassanette in our room for the 
first coulples of months. She then slept in a crib in her own room. I had a 
baby monitor on at night, so that I could hear everything that was going on. 
My fiance and I are both blind, and have had no problems being able to get 
up and see what is going on with our daughter. I naturally tune into what is 
going on with her, just as I do with my dog. I don't get what being blind 
has to do with where where your baby sleeps. You can still hear the baby 
even if you can't see them.
